Real Madrid demolish Racing Santander 6-1: Cristiano Ronaldo nets incredible 4 goals
The Spanish giants, a dominant Real Madrid thrashed Racing Santander 6-1 at Santiago Bernabeu and regained the top spot in the Spanish La Liga.
Gonzalo Higuain scored the 1st goal in the 10th minute of the game; that goal took his tally to 5 goals in the La Liga. However, it was the superb play of Cristiano Ronaldo that made the headlines. He bagged
four goals, one after another, and showed why Madrid paid £80 m to Manchester United for securing his services. In the 63rd
minute, Mesut Ozil scored the 6th goal. Santander managed to get a consolation goal later in the game with a wicked deflection of Markus Rosenberg.
Jose Mourinho’s side started off brightly. They took the lead in the 10th
minute when a superb cross from Angel Di Maria found Gonzalo Higuain, who evaded the offside and placed it behind Racing Santander keeper Tono Rodriguez.
After just 5 minutes, Madrid were two up. When former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa played a lovely ball down the right side to Higuain, the Argentinean striker didn’t waste any time and delivered a perfect low cross towards
Ronaldo, who didn’t make any mistake and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
It was just the beginning for Ronaldo, as he killed the tie by scoring his 2nd goal of the night. Madrid were 3-0 up in just 27 minutes. Assisted by Mesut Ozil, it could not have been an easier finish for Ronaldo.
Racing were punished heavily for not putting their men forward. Whenever they were in the goal scoring position, they got crowded by Madrid players. The start of the 2nd half sent the Racing’s team into further despair
as the former Manchester United man scored a superb hat-trick assisted by the Argentinean Di Maria.
Goals kept coming and there was no stopping Cristiano Ronaldo. He tore apart Racing almost singlehandedly. Ronaldo scored his 4th
goal when Di Maria was brought down by Domingo Cisma on the edge of the box. A penalty was awarded and Ronaldo didn’t make any mistake and scored the goal. He is now the top goal-scorer in the La Liga.
The sixth goal for Real Madrid came just over an hour mark as Mesut Ozil got a pass from former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso. Ozil ran into the defences of Santander and scored a superb goal.
Racing did manage to score a mere consolation goal in the 73rd
minute. Diop hit a powerful shot from long range that took a deflection from Rosenberg and hit the net. The Real Madrid keeper had absolutely no chance to save the shot.
This emphatic win took Madrid back on top of the La Liga, just one point above Barcelona. Racing keeps the 16th position but could move down in the relegation zone in case Sunday’s results go against them.
This was the game which will be remembered for Ronaldo’s superb performance. With this game, he showed everyone why he is regarded as the world’s best player.
Jose Mourinho deserves all the credit. It seems that the ‘Special One’ has transformed the team and made them into a winning unit. The new signings Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria are beginning to settle in this team and putting
up match-winning performances every week.
Pepe and Ricardo Carvalho are developing into a strong defensive partnership.
Jose Mourinho was over the moon after the resounding victory. The Special One heaped praise on Los Blancos after they returned to the top of the table.
He said after the match: “"We’ve been playing well for several games now, doing a good job overall and pressurising our opponents as a whole team.
“We want to have a mentality that doesn’t allow for two consecutive defeats. We played a very serious game in Malaga and we did so again against Milan and also tonight. That’s the mentality I want my team to have and I am very
happy about it."
