Real Madrid duo, Sergio Ramos and Gonzalo Higuain, have urged their team-mates to maintain their focus on the Barcelona clash.
Madrid will travel to Nou Camp for the second-leg of the semi-final of UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Los Blancos lost their first-leg 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu recently.
Ramos was disappointed after his team’s 3-2 home defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-Zaragoza-c40344 in a La Liga match on Saturday, April, 30, 2011. Madrid failed to pounce on the opportunity to close the gap on league leaders, Barcelona, who also lost their respective match 2-1 to Real Sociedad. With only four matches left to play, the gap at the top still remains to 8 points and the Catalans have a firm hand on their third successive league title.
The defender added that the team was below par in the first half against Zaragoza and carried the same momentum in the second half too. Ramos, who is suspended for the second-leg, has urged his team-mates to change their mentality if they are to get any result against Pep Guardiola’s team.
Talking to the reporters Ramos said, “We have to change our mentality now to concentrate on the Champions League. It’s obviously difficult, but we will try to turn the score around. We wouldn’t even travel to Barcelona if we thought there was no chance.”
On the other hand, Real Madrid striker, Gonzalo Higuain, who is making return from a lengthy injury lay-off, has urged his team-mates to fight to the death against Barcelona. The Argentinean admitted that the defeat was very hard to take, but his team still stands a chance of making it to the final at the Wembley Stadium.
“It’s a tough defeat, but these things happen. We must concentrate on what's to come and think we have a great chance to reach the Champions League final. We will fight to the death for that," said Higuain.
The 23-year-old believes that his team should put the la liga defeat behind them and take positives out of it to prepare for the trip to Camp Nou.
