Los Blancos are a part of Spain’s bid for 2020 Olympics and passed for the presentation to be made on May 25th.
Leaving out Real Madrid from the Olympic bid for 2020 would have been next to impossible. The most decorated Spanish and European club is a part of Madrid’s bid to host the sporting extravaganza eight years from now.
Los Blancos can host three sports in its extensive facilities. Football can be hosted at the Santiago Bernabeu, basketball at the Pavilion Arena in the Valdebebas, and archery in the new Alfredo di Stefano stadium.
Real Madrid used their excellent institutional relationships with the leading party to land the prestigious opportunity.
Hosting of the event by the current La Liga leaders will allow them to complete their set of sporting achievement. The Santiago Bernabeu has already hosted major events of football: the World Cup final (1982), Euro (1964), European Cup
finals (2010, 1980, 1969 and 1957) and final of the Copa del Rey.
The stadium was inaugurated on December 14, 1947. Since 1955, the white coliseum acquired its present name, the Santiago Bernabeu. The first major event it hosted was on May 30, 1957, as Madrid won their second European Cup at home to
Fiorentina (2-0).
The Santiago Bernabeu meets all the requirements for hosting the final, being one of the best stadia across the world.
Hosting of the basketball events will be a big bonus for the Capital club, as it will reopen the delayed construction project relating to the extensive NBA style facilities which are to be built in the Valdebebas.
The said construction would have a minimum capacity of 20,000 spectators, and Madrid needs funding and sponsorships to complete the necessary work of this calibre. Work on access to the area will be made available by Metros and subways,
as construction continues.
The newly developed Alfredo di Stefano stadium will be home to archery events. The modern facility has its own functional press room and can expand its capacity.
Hosting a football competition brings http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 as they won the Olympic final at the Camp Nou in 1992.
