Real Madrid looking to sign Memphis Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol: NBA News
After signing Rudy Fernandez of Dallas Mavericks and Serge Ibaka of Oklahoma City Thunder, Spanish basketball giants Real Madrid are pushing to pull off an even bigger move.
According to some reports, Real Madrid is making a run to sign Memphis Grizzlies’ superstar centre Marc Gasol for a long haul instead of signing the gifted big man for a short-term period during the NBA lockout.
Sportando reporting the news through Spain-based Marca.com revealed.
“Real Madrid is studying the possibility to make a rich proposal to Marc Gasol. The Spanish team wants Marc Gasol to be the franchise player for the future. Florentino Perez, president of the club, gave his approval to the entire
operation. The biggest hurdle is the NBA lockout. Marc Gasol said that he will start considering proposals from Europe and Spain just if the NBA season will be completely cancelled.”
Real Madrid is looking to devise a massive deal of 4-5 years and might agree to pay Marc Gasol a maximum of 9.3 million Euro’s per season.
Although, the 26-year-old Gasol is a restricted free agent, but, Memphis Grizzlies have already indicated that singing Gasol to an extension will be the first priority of the franchise after the NBA lifts the lockout, which restricts
the NBA owners to keep any kind of contact with their players.
Gasol’s future in Memphis Grizzlies looks very bright as he has two best players of the league Zach Randolph and Rudy g*y alongside. With him alongside Randolph, the Grizzlies were able to achieve what they have never achieved
before - a play-off win. In fact, Memphis Grizzlies transformed into a strong unit which enabled them to topple the Western Conference elite San Antonio Spurs in the first round. In doing so, Memphis became the fourth eight seeded team in the history of NBA
to overpower a top seeded team in the play-offs.
Memphis Grizzlies won’t let Marc Gasol go easily and they will be determined to match any offer to have the big man for a longer period.
However it does not mean that seeing Marc Gasol in Real Madrid is completely out of question. Earlier, Gasol has indicated that he will consider an overseas proposal if the NBA cancels the whole season. In this situation, the best
place for Gasol to play is his home country and Real Madrid is as big a club as any over there.
