Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho rules out Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of beating his team
Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has ruled out Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of beating his side in the two-legged UEFA Champions quarter-final this season. Los Blancos welcome the Spurs to Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday for the first leg of the tie. Mourinho believes that his team has the appetite to overcome the in-form North London side.
Spurs have been in impressive form in their debut UEFA Champions League season. The Lilywhites topped their group ahead of Italian Champions http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233. The North Londoners went on to beat AC Milan in the last 16 round of the competition to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Even though they are having a wonderful campaign so far, but getting better of the nine times Champions League winners, Real Madrid will never be easy for them.
"I have the utmost respect for Tottenham and what they have achieved this season in the Champions League. Of course they have earned the right to be proud of their success, but do I think they will beat Madrid? No. It is my opinion that we are the better team and I am confident we will progress over the two legs.” said Mourinho
Real have not won the competition since 2002, when they beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the final. Mourinho, who has won the competition with two different clubs; Porto and Inter Milan, was handed the Real Madrid job before the start of the ongoing 2010/11 season with the primary objective of winning the coveted Champions League.
Mourinho said: "Of course the expectations are greater. Not only because of me, but also because of this famous club’s history. They have under-achieved for far too long in a tournament they have won nine times and consider to be their own. But if there is pressure I have always welcomed it.”
The Portuguese added that joining Madrid was not about pressure to win trophies but about pressure to manage a club which people believe is difficult to manage.
