Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho tips his hat to Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur coach Harry Redknapp.
The Portuguese claimed that he is glad to be competing against Spurs in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, not because it is going to be easy, but because he would have a chance to congratulate Redknapp on what he has achieved with the London
club.
Real Madrid booked their place in the last eight of the tournament for the first time in seven years thanks to a 4-1 aggregate win over French outfit Lyon in the round of 16. Friday’s Champions League draw saw them paired up with Tottenham Hotspur, who are
the new kids on the block in Europe’s biggest club competition.
Though Spurs are new to this sort of competition, the Londoners have been showing no signs of fear when going up against the biggest names in the continent.
Despite the threat Spurs pose to his side’s Champions League hopes, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was delighted to be facing the London club in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Speaking on the upcoming encounter, Mourinho said, “I'm very happy to play them, not because I think it's going to be easy - because I don't think it will be - but because I get to go back to London, to an English stadium and I get to see Harry and I can
congratulate him for the great job he's done.”
Tottenham overcame seven-time winners AC Milan to reach the quarterfinals. It is a staggering position for a club that was fighting for its Premier League survivals just a few seasons ago.
Much of Tottenham’s success can be attributed to manager Harry Redknapp. Under the guidance of the enigmatic Englishman, the Spurs have transformed themselves into an attacking side capable of tearing apart even the most stubborn of defences.
Mourinho is full of respect for Harry Redknapp’s tactical acumen. He praised the Spurs boss for all the success he is bringing to White Hart Lane.
The Real Madrid manager added, “I left http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in 2007/8 and Spurs were not in the UEFA Cup, they were not even finishing in the first six of the Premier League. (Former Tottenham manager) Martin Jol started the good work and Harry has continued it in amazing
ways.”
Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur will go head to head for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Tuesday, 5 April, 2011.
