Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero desperate to win La Liga
Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero has revealed that he and his teammates are eager to win the La Liga this season.
While Madrid is traditionally one of the biggest clubs in European football, they have been forced to play second fiddle to Barcelona, who has won the league for the last two seasons.
But Granero is of the belief that, with heavy investment in the squad and Jose Mourinho, a coach who has tasted enormous success with Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan, on board, Madrid can stop the rot and deliver the silverware for the passionate Bernebau
fans.
“Real Madrid is always a favourite, but let's not speak of such things. Barcelona won the last Liga campaign and they control their own fate.”
“We want this to be our year and for Real Madrid to return to the pinnacle of the football world. After two years of not winning a thing, we think it's our time. We have every incentive in the world to win.”
With the international fixtures done and dusted, domestic leagues will churn back into action this weekend. Madrid’s first match in two weeks will see them travel to face Malaga on Saturday, October 16.
Granero is looking forward to the match and is confident going into the game.
“I am pretty sure we can keep another clean sheet if we continue playing the way we have been. It's crucial that we do so, especially on the road.”
“Opponents get more comfortable once they score a goal, so we need to be mindful of Malaga, who knows how to play defensively and who have specific players who specialize in counter-attacking.”
“We need to be solid in defence, and I am sure that we can score a goal or two with the offensive fire power we have.”
