Real Madrid president rules out Messi and Rooney
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ruled out a move to sign Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney this summer.
Following José Mourinho’s arrival to Real Madrid, once again the Spanish club have been linked with all the major names in world football.
Last summer Madrid splashed the cash on Kaká, and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Perez insists there will be no repeats of that.
World player of the year Messi is considered by Perez to be “the second best player in the world,” behind Cristiano Ronaldo, saying “it wouldn’t be good to have them in the same team.”
Perez has also ruled out a move for Manchester United talisman Rooney, saying that Madrid are already equipped with good players up front.
Perez, who was elected president for the second time last year, believes only a handful of players will arrive to Madrid this summer. “We already have the stars in our current squad, so we'll sign two or three great players to complement them.”
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard and Inter Milan full-back Maicon are some of the players that could fit the bill.
