The Spain international insists that Madrid have a brilliant chance of winning the competition after last winning it almost 20 years back in 1993. Casillas claimed that it would be vital if Madrid win, putting pressure on the opposition
for the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Real Madrid will face Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Cup on Wednesday at the Mestalla in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863. The clash will be the second between the two sides in a matter of four days. The previous fixture, played on Saturday, ended
in a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Casillas revealed that he is desperate to win the competition as he has never won it in his 12 seasons at the Bernabeu. But he admitted that it won’t be easy against Barcelona. The goalkeeper added that the Catalans have had a
sensational season and it will be a clash of the two best Spanish clubs.
“It is a very important trophy for Real Madrid and we cannot afford to not win it for 17 years. It will be even more important if we do win it. It is vital. I have not won it in the eleven years I have been here. We believe it
is time to win many trophies. We know it won’t be easy. It will be a great match between the two best teams in Spain,” he was quoted as saying.
The Spaniard was all praise for manager Jose Mourinho and admired the tactician’s determination. He stated that the manager had given the team a lot of confidence and that is why they have seen a great season thus far.
“The coach is a winner and he has placed importance on the Cup from day one, Mourinho believes every match is important and he has made sure that we focus only on this match. That is what he stuck in our heads and we have come
out on top against everyone from Murcia to Levante to Atletico and Sevilla. We sense his desire to reach and win the final,” the Spain international concluded.
Casillas has made a total of 565 appearances for Los Blancos and is the second most capped Spain international with 119 caps to his name.
