Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema feels he is gaining self-confidence; Mesut Ozil raring to go against Barcelona
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema believes he has boosted his self-confidence by scoring in the Copa del Rey. The Frenchman seemed quite contented with his performance in the 5-1 thrashing of Real Murcia on Wednesday night. Karim
successfully converted from the penalty spot to score a rare goal in Madrid colours this season, and helped his side advance to the next round of the tournament.
Benzema has had little playing time for the Los Blancos this season, mostly because Argentinean forward Gonzalo Higuain has been preferred by Real boss Jose Mourinho to fill in the striker’s spot. The former Olympique Lyonnais
player started the match against Murcia and made full use of the opportunity provided by scoring a goal.
Talking about his performance on the night, he said, “The team played great and worked hard throughout the entire match. Scoring is always important, but what is even more significant is that I feel better and better each day.”
Benzema’s teammates have also heaped praise on him and said that the Frenchman is showing signs of his return to top form, including Spanish defender and teammate Sergio Ramos, who says that everyone in the La Liga side supports
the French striker.
Meanwhile, the date for the intensely awaited ‘El Clasico’ has been moved to Monday, 29th November due to Catalan elections being held on Sunday (28th
November). Both teams, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, do not seem happy with the decision made by the governing body of LIGA BBVA and the clubs expressed their concern over the possible problems that will be faced by the travelling fans.
However, Madrid superstar Mesut Ozil has claimed that changing the date of the fixture will not have any effect whatsoever on the match itself.
Talking about the eagerly anticipated encounter with the Catalan giants, Ozil said, “I know that the match against Barcelona will be played on a Monday, but no matter what day the match is played on, the important thing is that
we win the game, and we will, against Barcelona. Every player in the squad wants to prove something to Real Madrid, and every match is important. I am very pleased and happy to play in this team. The support that I received was fantastic. I try to give 100
per cent in every game and support the team because the fans are fantastic.”
The hype is at an all-time high for the clash between the Spanish giants, especially given the fact that Jose Mourinho will be facing Barcelona for the first time after he dumped them out of the UEFA Champions League last year,
on his way to claiming European glory as manager of FC Internazionale.
