Real Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao – La Liga Match Review (Part 2)
The game was full of action and drama as there were red cards, penalties and goals involved. The first half ended 1-1 for both the sides but the second half had a lot to look forward to. Madrid had started their comeback and everyone was expecting them to

Real Madrid started the second half with a lot of energy. The first attack was created by Mesut Ozil and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcos-c23772. De Marcos earned himself a yellow card
while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 stepped up from Madrid in order to take the penalty kick.
The Portuguese captain made no mistake from the spot and shot the ball into the top corner, giving Iraizoz absolutely no chance of saving it. The penalty was well spotted and had a lot of power to it. Therefore, Iraizoz simply had no way of stopping it from
finding the back of the net.
Madrid were on the front foot and the crowd simply knew that there were more goals to follow. Athletic Bilbao looked relatively dull in the second half; especially after the penalty which was awarded to Real Madrid early after the game restarted.
Bilbao tried to play on the counter attack but they failed to take advantage of Madrid’s high back line. The league leaders, on the other hand, looked hungry for goals and kept on coming at Bilbao’s defence in order to take a two goal lead.
Soon, a move started by Cristiano http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 rushed on to the loose ball and found the back of
the net, the referee decided to award Real Madrid with a penalty.
Not only was Real Madrid given a penalty kick, but also, De Marcos was shown a second yellow for his challenge on Mesut Ozil. Bilbao were now a man down with Madrid about to score their third goal of the game; things were looking extremely difficult for
the visiting side who took a bright start to the game at Santiago Bernabeu.
Ronaldo made no mistake from the spot and found the back of the net easily. Bilbao were losing 3-1 against one of the best Spanish team.
With Bilbao opening up and trying to attack against Madrid, they were left with open spaces in the defence. Madrid took advantage of such a situation and Jose Callejon scored a late goal during the 86th minute to make the score line 4-1.
Madrid won the game 4-1 and managed to maintain a five point lead over their arch rivals, Barcelona. It wasn’t the best start of the game for Madrid but they still managed to make a strong comeback in order to put the pressure on the Catalan side.
Madrid now have to face Barcelona on 25th of January for a Copa del Rey quarterfinal. Los Blancos have already lost 1-2 at Santiago Bernabeu and they have to go and win at the Nou Camp, in order to qualify for the next round.
