Real Madrid vs Olympique Lyon: Los Blancos hoping for a change in their fortunes
Spanish giants, Real Madrid will host the reigning French Ligue 1 Champions, Olympique Lyon, in the second leg of the round-of-16 UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday, the 16 of March, 2011 at Bernabeu, Madrid. The first leg was played on Tuesday, February
22, 2011, at Stade Gerland which ended all square at 1-1.
On the seven previous occasions these two teams have met, Los Blancos have not been able to beat the French side and on Wednesday, Jose Mourinho’s team will look to break the deadlock and qualify for the last eight of the Champions League.

Going back to November, 2005, both these teams played a reverse fixture at the Bernabeu which ended all square at 1-1. It meant that Madrid finished runners up in the group behind Lyon.
In 2006, Lyon were hosts to the Los Blancos in the group stages of the Champions League and once again the Les Phoceens came out on top by a 2-0 margin.
Then, in the reverse fixture played in November 2006, both Madrid and Lyon played out an entertaining 2-2 draw which meant that Madrid once again finished second in their group to Olympique Lyon.

In the second leg played at Bernabeu, Los Blancos and Les Phoceens played out a 1-1 draw again.
This draw earned Lyon, a place in the last eight of the competition while Madrid went out of the campaign.
Recently, these two teams met in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash of the UEFA Champions League, played on the 22 of February, 2011 at Lyon. The clash ended all square at 1-1. Los Blancos got the lead through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 which was cancelled out
by Befetimbi Gomis, seven minutes from time.
Madrid are going to meet Lyon for the eighth time in the competition, in the second leg of their round-of-16 tie and will certainly be looking for a change in their fortunes.
