Real Madrid will not back down from Fabregas and Gerrard
Be it his own desire to acquire the best in the field (especially before Barcelona does) or he is meeting every will of Jose Mourinho, the Real Madrid President Florentino Perez isn’t backing down from his desire to seek Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard and Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas.
Sources have told that Perez reckons that the two star forwards should join him at Bernabeu, statements that will cause further uproars at both North London and Anfield. Both these clubs have to deal with too much already. The Gunners are trying to replace their squad and resolve the ‘Barcelona-Fabregas saga’ while the ‘Reds’ have to just about do everything right.
While talking to the media, reporters targeted Perez on questions about stealing the two skippers from the teams. He made no direct comments on the scenario when he said, “We have no decision yet and all I can say is that both players are among the best in his position”.
The widely believed rumour is that Fabregas has set his eyes on Camp Nou but as the Barcelona and Co. are still unable to make an offer that enables Arsene Wenger to relinquish his tight hold on the Spanish ace striker. There have been unofficial bids made by the Catalans of up to 40 million pounds but the North Londoners are not budging from their stance by saying that they will accept no less than 60 million pounds.
With a situation like this, Real Madrid who came in second to rivals Barcelona in La Liga last season will do anything to obtain the prodigy. Fabregas is eyeing to accept this offer by making Wenger even more uncertain after they had a long resolving discussion between their differences. Fabregas told the media that after his long discussion with the Arsenal management, he will leave it up to Wenger to make his transfer and will take advice on concentrating on the World Cup. What Fabregas doesn’t know is that if nothing happens, he might have to spend another year at the Gunners; though he has said he’ll have the transfer in the end.
Barcelona President Joan Laporta isn’t a step behind Perez, being as adamant as ever. He believes that signing Fabregas will not be difficult. While talking to the media, he explained, “The conversations with Arsenal are at a stage where both sides have made the first move ... we made an offer and they turned it down”.
He politely added, “We’re still interested and we respect their position but we’ll try and make them change their minds. Everyone knows the difficulties there are in any operation where, though the player wants the move, the club defends its own interests”.
Advocating Fabregas against his enforcers, Joan said, “If one of my players who had done everything for the club, who was the team captain, told the club that his time had come to an end, I would immediately open the doors for him while defending the interests of the club”.
Fabregas has time and again commented that he would love it if his transfer occurs before the start of the World Cup but now their opener against Switzerland on the 16th of June isn’t that far. Laporta supported him when he said, “It would be good if this could be done before the World Cup. It’s something all the presidential candidates want, the manager wants and the director of sport wants”.
Gerrard on the other hand is facing inside politics. Not only is he bound to the club internally but the decision also involves his conscience to be stirred as well. He has served at Liverpool throughout his life and after Rafael Benitez’s departure; he has become the sole figure head at Anfield. The Scrousers will look at him to search for hope after the dismissal season that has seen nothing but everyone dancing in jeopardy.
Other players from Liverpool are preparing to depart and in the process, the manager has been left with no funds for the rebuilding of a squad. Secondly, they are looking forwards to sell the club in order to bring in the new owners who will reorganize the structure.
Gerrard has not ruled out his option for his transfer. He has been targeted by Mourinho before too when he was managing at Chelsea, however now he is making a whooping offer of 80 million pounds.
After Mourinho presented a long list of players to Perez, he received the nod from him to do whatever he wants. Fabregas and Gerrard if sign in to Bernabeu will be part of what many call the dream team of this era.
