Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo hails Jose Mourinho and Karim Benzema
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has praised his Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho and Karim Benzema, calling the striker “a great player”.
Ronaldo has been playing under Mourinho since his compatriot arrived at the Bernebau off the back of a treble-winning season at Inter Milan.
After initially struggling, the former Manchester United man has got the season off to a strong start, having scored ten goals in 12 games across all competitions and providing six assists. He credits Mourinho with boosting his confidence.
He told publication Record that: “(Mourinho) is a coach with clear ideas who has been helping us a lot. He is the father of the Real Madrid family. I am delighted to be working under him and I am sure he is enjoying being here a lot.
'Always good to be praised by coach'
'“It is always good to be praised, especially by the coach, who is the general of the troops. I feel fine and confident. I am in a good moment and I want to continue like this. There are always aspects one can improve, and I want to improve.”
Ronaldo arrived at the La Liga giants in June 2009 in a world-record transfer worth £80m, with Benzema making the switch from Olympique Lyonnais less than a month later
The France international has come under scrutiny for his performances at Madrid, but Ronaldo leapt to the 22-year-old’s defence.
He said that: “Ever since the beginning there has been huge pressure on all the signings, especially if the player is very expensive. The pressure is huge. Benzema is a great player, I have no doubts about his quality and a case that does not make sense
is being created. If we leave Benzema alone, working calmly, things will start happening.”
