Barcelona vs. Real Madrid: Iker Casillas praised by his Spanish teammate Victor Valdes ahead of El-Clasico
Spain international and Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has hailed the performance of his teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815 and admitted that Real Madrid goalkeeper had been his source of inspiration.
Valdes was talking ahead of El-Clasico return fixture that is set to take place on Saturday, April 16. Barcelona came out as easy 5-0 winners when these two teams met earlier in the season.
Valdes conceded it had always been very difficult for him to cement a place in the Spanish line-up in the presence of Casillas, but still praised his fellow country man for his consistent performances for Spain. He tipped him as an ‘impressive’ goalkeeper
and believes that the Spaniard had always stayed loyal towards his side.
Valdes said while speaking to reporters, “I had never had the opportunity to work with him before and it was during the training sessions that you really see [his] capabilities as a footballer. Iker is impressive, the power he has, the confidence.”
Further praising his teammate, the Barcelona no. 1 said, “What a keeper! It is one thing to have him in front of you and another to see him on television. You already have the intuition that he is really good.”
Valdes joined the Catalan outfit in 2002 and since then has enjoyed a lot of success with the club. He has made 397 appearances so far for Barcelona in all competitions. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605, the 29-year-old has won the La Liga title on four occasions and twice
he was part of the UEFA Champions League winning team.
Valdes has made three international appearances for Spain so far and was also a part of Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup winning squad. He also has bagged Zamora trophy on three occasions, the latest being in 2010.
Barcelona and Real Madrid face each other in a La Liga encounter during the coming weekend. Next week, these two teams would fight out for Copa del Rey. These rivals could also be fighting out in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League as both are very
much likely to progress through to the next stage.
Barcelona are leading the La Liga flight with 84 points and are eight points clear of their title rivals Real Madrid, with just seven games remaining in the season.
