Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho hopes lessons can be learned from AC Milan draw
Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho syas that he hopes his players can learn lessons from their UEFA Champions League group stage draw with AC Milan.
The sides met at the san Siro on Wednesday, 3 November, two weeks after the La Liga leaders beat the Italian giants 2-0 at the Bernabeu.
Madrid narrowly earned the point which secures their progression to the next stage of the competition after Pedro Leon netted in the third minute of injury time to make the score 2-2.
Gonzalo Higuain had put the visitors ahead at the stroke of half-time, but Pippo Inzaghi — who had come on as a substitute for the ineffectual Ronaldinho — netted twice for the home side.
Though Mourinho was pleased to see his side book their place in the last 16 of the tournament, he was disappointed that they had to do it the hard way.
He told FIFA’s official website that: "I think my team needs to learn, they need to learn how to play in the Champions League.
'We could have lost'
"The important thing is to learn to play at this level. If we had played as we should have done in the second half, we could have been 2-0 or 3-0 up but instead we could have lost. So it was a great experience
in terms of helping us to learn."
Mourinho was delighted with his side’s fighting spirit, as their willingness to play on to the death ensured a vital draw and means that the Spanish side are still unbeaten in all competitions this season.
He added that: "It was an important moment for Pedro but more so for the team because we've not lost, we've already qualified for the second round and we need just one point to win the group. The most important
thing was that the team had the mentality to play with the risk their coach asked of them at the end with many forwards."
