Real Madrid's Karim Benzema says he will repay Jose Mourinho with goals
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema says that he will replay head coach Jose Mourinho’s faith in him by scoring goals against Murcia in the second-leg of the sides’ Copa del Rey clash.
The clubs meet at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, 10 November, two weeks after Third Division minnows Murcia achieved one of the best results in their history by holding the Spanish giants to a goalless draw at
home.
With several of Madrid’s big-name players — including Mesut Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo — expected to be rested for the return game, Benzema looks set to spearhead the attack.
Since his poor showing against Murcia in the last game, Benzema has proven his worth to Los Blancos by coming off the bench to make an impact in the La Liga clash with Hercules and the UEFA Champions League
match against AV Milan.
The France international set up Ronaldo for the clincher in the 3-1 win over Hercules, while his deft pass to Pedro Leon led to a late equaliser against Milan — which helped maintain Madrid’s unbeaten start
to the season and ensuring the Spanish outfit’s progression to the knockout stage of the competition.
'His actions and words help me'
Benzema revealed that Mourinho never lost faith in him, and the 22-year-old is keen to repay the confidence shown in him by his manager.
He told reporters that: “I want to score goals against Murcia to thank Mourinho for what he has done for me. His actions and words help me. He is always here to help me to become better.
“He says things like, ‘You’ve played well, and you have to continue.’ I want to restore the trust that he has given me.”
Madrid are heavy favourites to win their match against Murcia. They are 1/12 to claim victory against their less illustrious opponents, while Murcia are 33/1 to win.
