On Monday, Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona handed Jose Mourinho the biggest defeat of his life, when Real Madrid were humiliated at Camp Nou. Barcelona scored five goals, in a match that was totally dominated by the Catalan giants. Madrid,
despite being one of the biggest sides in Europe, never looked like an established side in the face of the Catalans’ onslaught.
All the football pundits and fans around the world were dumbfounded and stunned after the results at Camp Nou. The punishment inflicted to Madrid was described as humiliating, embarrassing, undignified and mortifying by the football
world. There were many reasons behind these claims, and most of them were completely justified. After all, after being unsuccessful for the last two years, Madrid spent a lot in order to overcome Barcelona’s challenge, but in the end their efforts were met
with a failure instead.
The really humiliating thing about Madrid’s defeat was the control of Barcelona in the midfield area. Xavi and Sergio Busquets, both, controlled the ball and consequently the game in the midfield, rarely losing possession. These
players rotated the ball extremely well in the midfield, and for the most part of the game, Madrid’s midfielders were flabbergasted. Although, Madrid bought some quality midfielders during the summer, including Sami Kheidra and Mesut Ozil, but nothing could
help Madrid’s cause. These German midfielders had played extremely well so far but they looked like schoolchildren in front of the likes of Xavi and company.
Apart from this, there were other events that resulted in further humiliation for Madrid players. Sergio Ramos was shown a red card in the end, but the Spanish full-back did not take it with dignity. Ramos slapped two of his international
teammates, Xavi and Carlos Puyol, on his way out. Apart from this, Cristiano Ronaldo was involved in a brawl with Pep Guardiola, as he pushed the manager when he did not get the ball from him. It was nothing but frustration being showed by the Madrid players,
which showed that these players were unprofessional and lack the so-called sportsman spirit.
Despite having a great goal-scoring record in the league, Real Madrid made nothing during the match. Barcelona was the team with all the attacking, while Madrid even failed to defend properly. All their defenders and midfielders
were clueless, as the Catalans fired home one shot after another. Therefore, the embarrassment suffered during this match was unprecedented in the modern history of Real Madrid.
However, the manager of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho, has said that his team did not suffer any humiliation during the match. According to Mourinho, one team played very well while the other team failed to perform on the day, resulting
in a big defeat for the weaker side. Mourinho said that the loss would be dealt with in an easy manner, and the result was never a humiliating result. The manager told the press that he tried to shuffle things during the half time, but when the third goal
was scored, the match was lost by his team. So, it was his team’s failure to defend properly, which resulted in the loss against Barcelona.
Jose Mourinho is the manager of Real Madrid, and as a manager it is his duty not to let this defeat get on the nerves of his players. Therefore, he is only trying to play down the extent of the defeat and making claims that do
not give any credit to Barcelona. In reality, Barcelona players did not let the Real Madrid players to play according to their designs. On the contrary, the Barcelona midfielders controlled the game according to their own will, leaving the opposition helpless
and powerless.
However, despite the complete domination by Barcelona, Mourinho has told his players that they let the Catalans dominate because of their poor performance. In this way, Real Madrid would soon forget the thrashing and move on to
the rest of the season.
