Real Madrid’s Raúl may head to English Premier League
Former Spanish captain Raul has said that he may be making a move to England for the final years of his career. He said that the deal with German club Schalke has not yet been finalized.
The experienced striker, after formally announcing his exit from Real Madrid, where he spent his whole career, said that he has not yet put pen to paper with Schalke and still has his options open. He said that it is possible that he would head to England, as he has been a great admirer of the English game for long and would love to experience that before hanging his boots.
Raul said that Schalke have shown great interest, and he has had discussions with them, but still a deal has not been made. He said that there are other offers on the table as well which are from England. The striker further added that one thing is for sure: his career path will take him to either England or Germany.
English Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are believed to be interested in his services. Big names like Manchester United and Liverpool have also been thrown in the pool, but nothing concrete has been seen so far.
Raul went on to say that the decision to leave his beloved Real Madrid was the toughest one of his life. He said that this is a very emotional day for him, and no matter where he goes he would never be able to forget Real Madrid and would always be faithful to his former club. He said that even though he has spent his entire football career at Madrid, it still feels like a dream. He added that when the times are good, time flies by and he cannot believe that it is already over. He said many players in the world dream of being part of a club like Real Madrid, and he is proud to have served them for so long.
Raul said that every second that he spent on the pitch playing for Real was a magical moment for him. He added that he has given the club his blood and sweat and the club gave him much more in return. He said that he learned at Real that there is nothing called giving up and that is how he has always played, and will continue to do so wherever he goes.
Raul, who captained Real Madrid for many years, has been an integral part of the set-up for almost 2 decades. He won 16 titles with Real, but last season did not get too much action and decided that it is time to move on. He said that he never thought that he would play for any other club except Real, but still it would be great to experience something new before calling it a day.
Raul said that the English Premier League has always fascinated him, and he would love to be part of it. The former Spanish captain said that the English game is very different from La Liga, and it may not be that easy for him to adapt straight away. He added that with the amount of experience he has, in due time he should be able to adapt ably.
At the age of 33, he may not be the ideal choice for the big names in English football; Tottenham, though, can be an attractive option. Spurs would love to have a seasoned player like Raul amongst their ranks, and they have also qualified for the Champions League this season, so he would not miss out on European action either.
