Real Madrid’s biggest signings this past decade ( part 2)
Real Madrid are quite easily the most successful club of the twentieth century, in fact the team has been performing so well, that they were officially awarded the best club of the twentieth century award by FIFA.
Real Madrid have pretty much won it all, ever since the club was formed, they have countless league titles, Champions League cups and even countless League cups. However what really sets Madrid apart from the rest, is the team’s ability to grab hold of the
biggest talents in the world of football.
Here is a look at some of the biggest signing’s that the club had made this past decade. The players included on the list aren’t necessarily the best players to ever play for Madrid, but they are easily the biggest signings in the clubs History.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2009. The player agreed terms to a six year contract which would see him earn as much as, eleven million pounds per years, along with having a buyout clause of a whopping one billion Euros. Apart
from that, the stand alone price of the transfer was a record eighty million pounds, which made Ronaldo the most expensive player in the world of football.
Ronaldo was initially awarded the number nine jersey at the club, but with Raul eventually departing from the team, he was given the number seven jersey. Ronaldo’s presentation at the Bernabeu was viewed by over eighty thousand fans and in turn became the
biggest turn out to any players unveiling.
Ever since his arrival to the Bernabau Ronaldo has become a fan favourite, he is constantly dazzling the crowds with his lightning quick footwork and goal scoring habits, but by far what the player does best is when he takes free kicks.
David Beckham
Ronaldo could have been the biggest signing in the history of Real Madrid, had it not been for David Beckham. Beckham just like Ronaldo was a Manchester United player before joining Madrid and just like Ronaldo, Beckham wore the number seven jersey at the
club.
Beckham was strongly believed to be on the verge of signing a contract with Barcelona, but instead the player opted to make a move to the team who were the reigning champions of Spain. The highly acclaimed transfer was completed in the summer of 2003 and
the player cost Madrid around twenty five million pounds.
Beckham started off his career with a bang, after he went on to score two goals in the Spanish Super Cup which helped Madrid clench the trophy going into the season. Nonetheless Madrid didn’t really have a very good few seasons while Beckham was at the club,
they were playing some of the best football, but weren’t really getting any awards for their performances.
In January 2007 Beckham agreed terms with the MLS based team the LA Galaxy, to join them once the season was over. This enraged the manager of Madrid, Fabio Capello who banned Beckham from playing in the first team.
Due to injuries to a host of first team players, Beckham was brought back into the squad and the midfielder displayed some of the best football ever seen, in fact it was his surge of form that saw Madrid go on and end Barcelona’s domination in the domestic
league as the team went on to win the La Liga. Most people considered that years trophy to be Beckahm’s going away present to the team and the fans of the club.
Despite him no longer being a part of the Madrid squad, he is still considered to be one of the best players to ever join and play for the club.
