Real Madrid’s transfer merry-go-round may continue
After completing the transfer of central defender Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea, Real Madrid revealed that their fifth signing of the summer may not be the last. At a press conference to unveil Carvalho as their latest recruit, the club’s general manager Jorge Valdano said that "We are comfortable with the team that we have, but the exits and arrivals might not be over".
Carvalho joined Argentina international Angel di Maria, Spanish pair Pedro Leon and Sergio Canales and Germany’s 2010 FIFA World Cup star Sami Khedira as this summer’s arrivals at the Bernebau.  It has already been reported that Jose Mourinho is in the market for a striker to act as competition for Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema. Reported targets include Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, both of whom would require a huge fee to be shelled out.
The club are among several chasing the signature of Werder Bremen’s Mesut Ozil, who came to prominence after a stellar showing alongside Khedira in South Africa. Manager Jose Mourinho has also been trying to sign left-back Ashley Cole from his former club Chelsea but such a move looks unlikely after Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti said the defender would be staying at Stamford Bridge this season.
Set to leave
Meanwhile, several of Madrid’s players also look to be on their way out of the club, with defensive midfielders Lassana Diarra and Mahamadou Diarra’s statures with the club both looking under threat following the arrival of Khedira. The former has been attracting the interest of Manchester United, while Mahamadou Diarra could be on his way to Newcastle United.
It was also reported that Kaka was being allowed to move on by Mourinho with long-term admirers Chelsea looking his likely destination. However, the Brazil international suffered an injury that will put him out of action for four months and keep him with Madrid at least until the January transfer window.
