Real Mallorca coach Michael Laudrup pleased with start to season
Real Mallorca head coach Michael Laudrup has revealed that he is satisfied with his side’s start to the La Liga season.
After six games, Mallorca have claimed eight points from a possible 18 following a difficult spell where the club entered administration before the start of the season and were banned from entering into
continental competition by UEFA.
They are currently ninth in the table, well clear of the relegation zone. Mallorca have drawn against league giants Real Madrid and Barcelona and Laudrup will be looking to build on those positive results
and pick up points against other teams.
Laudrup was in a reflective mood as he spoke to reporters.
“We have faced two major sides in Real Madrid and Barcelona, and in principle you do not think of getting anything from those matches. We also had to face a difficult challenge (against Athletic) Bilbao,
so I think if we talk about points, eight is a good balance. The two key matches were those against Osasuna and Real Sociedad, these were games we had to win and we succeeded in both cases, therefore I think our total is good considering the schedule we had."
Room for improvement
“I am very happy with how the team has responded, but they still have a lot to improve. We may have achieved a great draw at the Camp Nou, but we suffered two losses versus Sporting Gijon and Athletic
Bilbao.”
Mallorca will have a good chance to continue their run of form when they take on Espanyol in their next game, but will face a much more difficult test against undefeated league leaders Valencia before
they host Levante.
They then have several opportunities to pick up wins in November, when they tackle Real Zaragoza, Deportivo de La Coruna, Sevilla and Malaga.
