Real Salt Lake under criticism over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-c5280 Saborio’s controversial penalty-kick – MLS News
Real Salt Lake rallied thrashed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Jose-Earthquakes-c40434 4-0 in a Major League Soccer week-19 fixture at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, July 23. However, the win was marred by heavy criticism coming from the RSL camp.
The 63rd minute penalty-kick converted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bobby-Burling-c7737.
The replays showed no contact between the two players; the penalty decision was unjust, and it changed the course of the game.
Following the spot-kick, the Earthquakes lost their grip on the game and the Claret and Cobalt scored two more goals in a matter of five minutes.
Saborio scored a brace but manager Jason Kreis did not appreciate the effort on the second goal. The Real had gone through a similar situation against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 a month earlier. Charlie Davies had scored a goal off the spot in that tie after going down in
dramatic manner. Replays had proven that no contact was made, and that the penalty decision was a wrong call.
Davies’ actions then had drawn drew Kreis’ fury, who strongly condemned the goal and the yellow card to his stalwart, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-Wingert-c9037. The MLS disciplinary committee even fined the DCU striker later on.
However, this time around, the RSL head coach was not as clear in his stance as he was on June 19.
“The truth of the matter is that I think that Sabo embellished it,” Kreis said. “And as I said at that time, I’m not a fan of that.”
Comparing the DCU and SJ matter, he said: “I was very clear in my feelings about Charlie Davies here, so I’ve already talked to Sabo a little bit about it in a little bit of a more unorganized fashion, and I plan to speak with him again because he does know
that I was clear in my scathing remarks about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charlie-Davies-c8841’ play.”
The manager then diplomatically changed his viewpoint, saying: “Players need to have their team get points so that their coach keeps http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 stability and so that they can have a little stability,”
The coach went on to divert the attention to referees. He believes video replay technology would facilitate play and the referees would be able to change their decisions, if required.
A response is expected from the Quakes as their head coach, Frank Yallop, was furious about the penalty awarded. Should they lodge a complaint, a decision from the disciplinary committee will be expected shortly.
