Martin Lasarte’s men were able to shock Spanish Champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AS-Real-c38478 Sociedad came from behind and won the game 2-1, in a Spanish La Liga encounter played on Saturday, April 30.
The Catalans were favourites to win the game, especially with an undefeated away run throughout the season.
The home team was determined to win the tie and even though Barcelona dominated a large patch of the game, they still conceded two goals in the second-half and allowed Real Sociedad to take all three points.
Real Sociedad were able to come from behind against the mighty Catalans. With Real Madrid losing their home fixture against Real Zaragoza, Barcelona had the opportunity to go eleven points clear on their arch-rival.
However, Sociedad were able to shock the Spanish Champions as they scored two goals in the second-half to help maintain their old record of being unbeaten for the highest number of games.
Barcelona were about to beat Real Sociedad's record of being unbeaten for the highest number of matches. However, Sociedad took advantage of Josep Guardiola’s second-choice team and were able to beat the Spanish Champions in their home ground, the Municipal
de Anoeta.
Just like Real Madrid, Josep Guardiola also fielded a totally second team for the easy-looking fixture. The Los Blancos played their second choice side and lost their home game 2-3 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-Zaragoza-c40344. Barcelona themselves played a second team and even though
they deserved to win, they simply couldn’t do much about the two goals they conceded in the second-half.
Josep Guardiola played Jose http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Victor-c36011 Valdes, as he has to play in the mid-week UEFA Champions League semi-final, against Real Madrid. Even though the first-leg ended
with Barcelona taking a two away goals advantage, there are still 90 minutes left to play in that game.
Barcelona youngster, Martin Montoya played as a right back and took http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves’ position in the first team. It was for the first time he featured for Josep Guardiola’s side but after only four minutes played, he got injured and was replaced by Brazilian
full-back, Daniel Alves.
Another young Barcelona star, Andreu Fontas performed his role in the left back position. Even though Fontas is actually a centre back, Josep Guardiola decided to play him in the left back role. The first team left backs Eric Abidal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773
are all injured and that is the reason why Guardiola fielded Fontas, rather than any of the three full backs. Fontas is a left-footed centre back and he barely had a problem performing there.
Gerard Pique featured in the centre back position and he was being assisted by the Argentinean centre back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Milito-c14321. Even though Gabriel Milito has not been outstanding throughout the season, Guardiola decided to play him in the centre back position.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique was one of the three first-team players who started-off for Barcelona against Real Sociedad.
