Question:

Real Songs For Kids?

I'm in my high schools choir. Every year we do a fundraiser called the youth workshop where we bring in kids, and teach them a song and dance. Four friends and I signed up to work with the kindergarteners. We want to treat them like big kids and teach them a real song, not some lame baby song like the ABC's. Any ideas in the rock type genre that are appropriate for 5 year olds?

  1. Maybe you could make up your own rock song that would be appropriate for 5 year olds.

  2. Dr Jean - everybody sing - it has a GREAT song you could do to sign language.  It's a CD - look online, I'm sure they have it.

  3. What a Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong.

  4. i really don't know about the ABC song for that age. children that age like action song like the bear hunt. it a song that let children use their imagination and they have a ton of fun with it.

  5. Hokey Pokey, Material Girl and Hey Baby are great kids songs.

  6. They Might be Giants have at least 1 or 2 kids albums out.  The one my daughter has is called "Here come the ABC's"  She's in kindergarten and LOVES it.  My husband and I love it too because it's not so annoying as the majority of kids music!

  8. Laurie Berkner sings kids' songs, but they are very silly, hilarious, and catchy! Fun to sing and dance!

  10. Greg and Steve has a lot of great rock tempo songs for kids.  We did their "United we stand"  song off of the READY, SET, MOVE Cd.  The parents loved it.  Most libraries have their CD sets.

  11. Could you and your friends write some words that would be appropriate for preschoolers and put it to a familiar tune and put your own choreography into it. Or maybe a rap. Maybe something about the weather, eating, or manners? Not sure if this is very clear but I am sure you have some very creative ideas. There might be some DVD's  that show some music and dances for preschoolers too. I have seen a video tape that was called "Kidsongs" (I Can Dance). Hope this has been of some help.

Thank you for sharing your talents with the children, you are good examples to them.
