Real Zaragoza edge past Getafe CF, 2-1 - Spanish La Liga Recap
The two La Liga teams reeling just above the relegation zone, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Getafe-CF-c39419 locked horns on Monday, 11 April at the Estadio La Romareda. The home-side registered their eighth win of the season enabling them to stay three points clear
of the drop-zone.
The Zaragoza went in with 4-2-3-1 formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ander-Herrera-c5543 played behind Uche as a second striker. Antonio Doblas starred as a goal-keeper. The Getafe, on the other hand went in with a standard 4-4-2 formation.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oscar-c28720 Ustari guarded the visitor’s net.
Home team got the game off to a brisk start and were on the front foot right from the word go. The Getafe were put under immense pressure from the Blanquillos midfield as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-Ponzio-c22088 kept on getting forward with utmost ease.
The Dark Blues were held back in their tracks and their every attempt to press forward was easily blocked by Zaragoza’s back-four. Home team’s pressure paid off in the 15th minute, when Leo Ponzio dribbled past http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivan-c17215 Marcano and smashed in from
outside the box to make it 1-0 for the home-side.
The Getafe were forced on the back-foot and were not given a single opportunity to make a run forward as the home-side looked determined to stretch their lead. It seemed as El Geta had no answers to the relentless pressure they were put under. All the odds
were going against the visitors but they kept on surging forward in search of an equaliser.
The Zaragoza, on the other hand looked comfortable and continued to play their attacking game. The Getafe were in for a shock as the mid-fielder, Nicolas Bertolo, benefitted from Uche’s cross and placed the ball behind Ustari to make it 2-0 for the home-side.
Suddenly there was a jump in the Getafe’s step as Colunga and Francisco http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Casquero-c18043 stepped up the pace. They did not have to wait for long, as Casquero got one goal back for the visitor’s right at the stroke of half time. This was the last piece of action
as the half ended at 2-1.
The second half was a bit even-steven, as both teams tried to out run each other. The Zaragoza lacked some urgency as compared to the first half but showed some decent ball control. The Getafe were behind and hence pressed hard to get the equaliser but were
denied by steady the Manos’ defence.
Despite of some desperation shown by the visitors, they couldn’t draw level as the home side edged past the Getafe and registered a vital win.
With this win, the Zaragoza are now 17th in the table with 33 points. They will play Villarreal next on 18 April. The Getafe are at the 16th spot with 34 points and will face Sevilla in their next game on 16 April.
