Real Zaragoza have appointed Manolo Jimenez as Javier Aguirre’s successor after Michel had turned down the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 offer citing sporting differences.
The Aragon-based club are bottom of La Liga table heading into 2012, and Coach Javier Aguirre was axed following an unimpressive start to the season.
Zaragoza have performed woefully in the first half of the season, picking up a measly 10 points from their league outings.
It was reported by the club's official website that an agreement had been reached with the former Real Madrid midfielder, Michel.
However, the former Getafe manager denied that he had taken the managerial position vacated by Javier Aguirre. Michel acknowledged that he had been offered the chance to lead Real Zaragoza but has not taken the job yet.
He stated that there are significant sporting differences between the club and himself, and he will not be taking up their offer. Howbeit, he did leave room for the possibility of him taking the job, reflecting that if an agreement is reached, he will be
more than happy to commit his future.
"Around 6.30 [Zaragoza] enquired over the possibility of meeting with me. We talked about sporting subjects and it was a cordial meeting, but it seems that there are differences in how I see the situation and what they are able to offer me.
"I don't think it will be easy for this to be resolved today, tomorrow or in a week. I have given my opinion and project for the club, and if they choose to fulfil this then negotiations will remain open. I cannot change my project because it is a realistic
one," http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 stated.
It was later revealed that Real have agreed terms with former Sevilla manager Manolo Jimenez. The club's official website read that the manager has been given a contract until the end of season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manolo-c23349 arrives at La Romareda after a spell with Greek powerhouse, AEK Athens. Despite leading the club to Greek Cup glory six months earlier, the manager parted company by mutual consent in October 2011.
The former Spanish international will have a stiff task on his hands as he pursues to stave of relagatoin.
