How is the multiplication of real numbers related to the multiplication of linear binomials?

Ex: 101*101=10201 (X+1) * (X+1)= X^2+2x+1

  1. I wouldn't have said it was, but the answer you are clearly looking for is something like:

    12 = 1x10 + 2 and 25 = 2 x 10 + 5 so

    12 x 25 = (1x10 + 2)(2 x 10 + 5) = 2 x 10^2 + (4 + 5) x 10 + (2)(5) = 200 + 90 + 10 = 300

    Clearly though:

    a. we are not talking about simple binomial powers

    b. there is the issue of carries.

    Your example happens to be an unusual case.
