Real reason behind Dhoni opting not to tour Sri lanka?

I think he was aware what Murali and Mendis are capable of and he was sure that he won`t be able to play them. So he was scared of faliure there and hence to save his place in the test side and more importantly to save his nose he thought it would be better not to tour Lanka?

Dhoni has a gr8 temperament and he would not shy out of a test series afraid of two spinners. Well i agree he might have felt bad after losing the asia cup...bt still i'm sure he had a reason to back out from the test series.

I don't think so. Dhoni will be batting at No 6 or No 7. That is, only when the big guns already in and a few of them out. If the top order performs well, there is  no pressure on Dhoni. If the entire batting line up falters, then the criticism will be targeted at the fab 4. Dhoni is not considered a big test match player. If anything comes under the scanner, it will be how he was performing behind the wicket. So it is absurd to think that Dhoni foresaw (what prognosticative abilities, let him stop playing cricket and start a career in astrology) that Indian team will lose in Lanka and shied away from it.

Well, you could be right, but I don't think that Dhoni is that type of  player. He probably needed a rest from the Asia Cup, ( As you can see, not many of the players who were in the Asia Cup came to Sri Lanka,) and personally, I don't remember him participating in any recent test matches at all.

but saying so, some of his plans would work !!

If this series is scheduled with West Indies,Bangladesh or zimbabwe ,.. then Dhoni would have gladly toured there . But as a shrewed captain, now he seeks tactical ploys too..He does not want to expose himself to new threat ,..Ajantha mendis again too soon to jeopardize his test spot . If Kumble fails ,in this tour ,then it could be easy  as M.S.Dhoni's advantage to get" Test captaincy" for himself too..He does not need some rest like old guys like Dravid &Sachin. MSD is young & strong.And one may feel this is Dhoni's way of showing his worth in Indian test squad.

nope, he is not the skipper in tests so i don't foresee the reason you explain for opting out a valid reason, there are some reasons which can't be disclosed in public and always remain obscure!

I do not think your assessment is correct.  If he is scared of facing Mural,i and Mendis, he would have opted out from ODI as well.  I feel that he has decided to take a break as he has been playing non-stop cricket than any other player in the Indian Team during the last one year.

He has already lost IPL, Kitply cup, Asia Cup. Should have got frustrated. Must have realized that luck doesnt click often as in 20-20 WC.

IPL was a more tiring season (playing for more than 1 months). Wasnt that giving him fatigue...might be he was not getting tired after IPL because of the million dollars.

Fatigue is the mask to cover the cowardice. He is afraid to face murali, mendis.
