Real reason gas prices are expanding?

What is the real reason gas prices keep going up? I keep hearing rumors it's because of the oil being hard to get since various oil fields require zillions of rigs (not to mention the oil fields are near areas of wildlife like polar bears). Plus Oil is extremely hard to transport by sea because of a possible oil spill. I also heard that president bush is to blame, and the governers are the ones that keep raisiong the tax prices. Therefore they raise the oil prices and gas prices as well. I think the gas prices keep going up because other states in the U.S. have higher gas prices. Pennsylvania can't have cheap gas otherwise many people will move to our state or other states, thus causing traffic to expand. I want to know the 100% true reason. Also, please take this question seriously.

  1. Normal inflation just like everything else we buy. We are lucky it's not going up as fast as our taxes and fees.

  2. its proborly because the oil co. isnt making enough money so they raise it to make more money and if america refused to rise it they will stop delivering gas to america

  3. prices are manipulated by oil companies

  4. My theory on the current commodity inflation game:

    1. News: US economy in trouble, US dollar crumbling to worthlessness, Nigerian oil production dropping because of MEND strike etc

    2. Reaction from the news:

US economy in trouble + s/d trouble of any kind = Investors in stock/commodity markets start hedging inflation by investing in commodities either in physical/mutual fund/stock. Why does the US econonomy even matter?

All friggin commodities such as crude and gold are circulated with it. If it crumbles to worthlessness, the inflation created from its decay will be huge.

    3. Stuff that the news doesn't report: The impact of the Bush's two wars on US govt funds as you have mentioned and irresponsible govt spending policies (such as for unsustainable govt promises made) that have help dig the country deeper into debt which affects the economy as well.

  5. My guess is because the rest of the oil producing world can get away with it.

WE HAVE TO BE ENERGY INDEPENDENT.  So the rest of the world cannot put a strangle hold on America.
