Real vegetarians only!?

I am trying really hard to be a vegetarian for the past 2 months. But I can't seem to give up seafood. Is this okay for vegetarians? Will I still be considered a vegetarian if I don't give up fish and other seafood?

  1. Nope..vegetarians do not eat the flesh of any dead animal.  The meaning of vegetarian has been the same since the 1800's.

    Just because you don't eat animals with four legs, that doesn't make you a vegetarian.

    Being a pesco-vegetarian does not sound difficult at all, it actually sounds incredibly easy. I'm pretty sure that most restaurants have a dish with fish in it instead of a bird or a mammal.

    If you think being vegetarian is hard, try being a vegan. My friends a vegan.

    She can't have eggs, milk, honey, etc.

    She can't wear leather or animal tested beauty products. She can't have a lot E numbers in food.

    But she find being a vegan easy because she eats foreign food so her options are more wider.

    Fish is a meat, it is a living thing. When you are a Vegetarian you do not consume any meat at all. Just because seafood lives in the ocean doesn't mean it is any different from eating any land animal. If you don't want to give up seafood you can be a pescatarian. The only meat pescatarians eat is seafood. But you will not be considered a vegetarian. If you didn't give up seafood for those 2 months, you were never considered a vegetarian.

    I am not vegitarian but I do not like to eat meat that much..

    I eat veggies & fruits most of the time...

    If you really creave for fish do not give up frm fish, you know fish is very healty....Omega 3, good for skin & not fatning(if your are not frying them)

  10. no. you are not a vegetarian. there are different kinds of vegetarians. you are pescitarian, which means you eat seafood. i am lacto-ovo-tarian. (that means i dont eat animal flesh, but eat eggs and dairy.

    Just make changes in your diet that make sense to you---and don't try to give your choice a title.

  12. If you eat just fish your called a pescatarian. There is no such thing as a pesco-vegetarian. Google it, there are a few groups and web pages about it.

  14. Terminologically maybe not.. but vegetarianism is very broad, and there are some really bizarre levels to it..

    Some will eat a certain red meat--Yea I thought that was odd

    Others eat fish

    Others eat eggs and milk

    Some eliminate those and stick with fruits, veggies, and grains..

    Others will eat only vegetables or fruits -fruititarians..

    Some go so far as to have not much beyond water and juices...

    It gets really trippy but general society recognizes that there is a sect of vegetarians that eat sea food :]

    And they're still considered vegetarian..

  16. I completely understand.  Seafood was the only thing I had trouble giving up.  Take a little time still eating seafood.  You will be called a pescetarian, which is not a vegetarian but close to it.

    It was hard for me to understand that eating fish is also not good for you, the fish, or the environment.  Overfishing is hearting delicate ocean environments.  Fish do feel pain...and when you eat fish you are consuming all of the pollution that our oceans are plagued with today.  

    Factory fish farms are even worse.  Over half the fish die from improper living conditions.  The farmers count that as just another cost.  It's really greedy.  Also the fish carry diseases.

    If you are still going to eat fish there are certain precautions that I would recommend you follow.  Don't eat fish from China.  It's really dangerous and disgusting.  You can read up on it if you want.  Also don't eat fish high in mercury very often.  If you eat tuna I would suggest regular tuna instead of albacore.  Albacore just has way too much mercury.

    I kicked the fish habit and I don't miss it.  There are so many wonderful vegetarian foods out there just waiting for you to discover them.

  17. Because you crave what your body needs. This is why horses don't like meat and dogs don't eat grass. It's not what they were meant to eat. They weren't meant to. People usually crave foods when their body needs something. So either eat seafood or take supplements. I tried going veggie years ago and discovered it wasn't for me. I was less healthy and looked worse and ended up with some more serious health issues later. Now I still enjoy veggie and vegan food but I just eat meat. I'm much healthier now! I respect the reasons why people go veggie, there are just some people who don't do well that way and I am one of them!

  18. Vegetarians don't eat dead animals.  Period.

    If you want to continue to eat seafood, please don't call yourself a vegetarian.  The word for your diet is pescetarian, which is a type of omnivore who excludes most meat, but will still eat fish.

  19. it all depends on what kind of vegetarian you are.

    1. LACTO VEGETARIANS

    They eat no flesh of any kind. Their diet consists of fruit and vegetables and dairy products(vegetarian cheese only)

    2. LACTO-OVO-VEGETARIANS

    They eat the same as the lacto vegetarians but also include eggs in their diet.

    3. VEGANS

    They eat only plant food.They eat no flesh, no eggs and no dairy products. Some will eat honey but not others.

    4. FRUITARIANS

    They eat only fruits,nuts and seeds.(This includes the fruit of vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes. However they never eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes)

  20. Go to a grocery and look in the frozen food area for the soy meatless stuff (things like Morning Starr "Better n Burgers", Chick patties", fish sticks too). You may have to go to more than one store because not every frozen food manager even knows veggies exist. Good luck.

    Second of all you can eat whatever you want.  There is no vegetarian police out there. However you will not be considered a vegetarian if you still consume seafood.  What you eat is your choice, and you don't need to categorize yourself into a specific group.  If you need some extra time to transition into fully becoming a vegetarian then take that time.  The most important thing is to stay healthy.

  26. Oh, my gosh! Where do all of these people who eat fish get the idea that they're vegetarians? I know that it sounds cooler to be a vegetarian than a pescatarian, but if you eat fish, then you are a pescatarian.

    There's nothing wrong with being a pescatarian if that's your choice, but you have to realize how much harder it is for us vegetarians to get served something that doesn't have fish in it. You are perpetuating misinformation. Also, if you don't understand what a vegetarian is, how can you understand enough about the lifestyle to follow a vegetarian diet properly?  Maybe that's why everyone is so worried about a vegetarian diet being innately protein-deficient.

    So, no, seafood is not OK for vegetarians, but it's fine for pescatarians. Just please use the accurate term to describe yourself until you can give up seafood and become a true vegetarian.
