I've met this amazing girl, and I need to start saving now to enable us to go on this perfect Venice honeymoon in a few years time. Say we went for one week, what would a realistic budget be?

Thanks!

  1. Well, if it's a few years away, why don't you put away £50 a month til then. You'll have more than enough money then :)

  2. I'd say for a honeymoon you'd need to spend at least £1300 on the actual booking and take about £500 spending money.

  3. There are a few things that need to be considered.

What time of year do you intend to go?  From late Spring to early Autumn is considered the tourist season and prices go up, especially at hotels.

Today, a reasonable hotel in Venice will cost about $300-$350 a night.  Dinners at nice restaurants run about $75 per person.  On top of that, your then-wife will want to do some shopping; I would recommend having at least $100 per day.

Since it's your honeymoon, you will need to take at least one gondola ride.  A gondola ride is like a hansom cab ride in New York City: It can be a delightful experience, but only if you're able to forget the price and focus on the scenery.  The city of Venice sets official rates for gondola rides, which started at about $120 for 40 minutes.  Additional 20-minute increments are about $60 . After 7 p.m., the base rate climbs to about $150.

I've estimated prices using today's exchange rate.

Adjusting for inflation, I would estimate that in, say, three years, you should plan on having at least $5,000 for a week in Venice.

You could probably get away with less, but, let's remember that this will be your honeymoon and you want to make it memorable.

  4. hello i'm Italian and i lived 2 hours away from Venice for 22 years...to be honest with you i've been there so many times that te feeling is to tell you not to bother and jet off to florence insead...but i do understand that venice is the romantic city by definition...i've read he answers you had so far and i don't personally think that they're realistic...one week is a long time in venice...if you go for the romantic week as it should be, in the end of the day we're talking about an honeymoon, the likely amount of mone you would need is around £2000 to £2500. the restaurants are expensive nothing its cheap there and expect to pay arond £50 to £80 per head for evenings meals that includes the service charge that you will incur in any restaurants...the gondola trip is a must during honeymoon expect to fork out about £100 for that...then a visit to murano the small isle where they make amazing glass work even watches made of glass could cost you a fortune depending on what you're going to buy...i've never left murano without leaving about £150 there...is one in the lifetime experience, not venice bu the honeymoon, so start saving and have a good time...if you have a change of heart consider florence, is equally romantic much cheaper better food amazing wine beautiful countryside gobsmacking views cheerful peoples...ciao

  5. £1000 would be good because this girl mights want to go shopping!
