Question:

Realistically am I nuts to be ordering AR15 receivers?

I have some extra cash and rather invest it the ever crashing stock market I thought I would buy 15 or 20 AR15 receivers. I already have 11 and would like to buy more. I have built 3 thus far and would like to buy some for later builds. Am I crazy for buying them? I don’t want to fall into all the hype about the coming election but its hard not to. If McCain is elected what will happen to the receivers? I am looking at the DPMS Panthers for 109 and the Spike's Tactical for 115 or so. Any other brands you might suggest would be helpful too. Seriously, I am about to hit order but want a second opinion.

  1. They aren't going to go down in value

If McCain gets in he will most likely sign the same AWB with no sunset

Worst case you only get a few dollars on your investment

Make sure you diversify your portfolio by picking up a good number of hi cap magazines

Less initial investment greater chance on a larger return on that investment

If Obama gets in the dems will be a little more emboldened and offer up a much more restrictive bill which may include an outright ban and possible NFA style registration

Or he may show some political savvy and just sign a stronger version of the old AWB with no sunset provision

If the former happens AR, AK, and so called assault weapons in general will go through the roof

I will remind you that an M16 prior to 1986 was about $1200 and a Sten was about $350

Either way count on hi-caps getting banned forever

I am investing my money in magazines

Mostly just because I don['t have enough to buy a lot of ARs and AKs right now

    ===================================

If you buy that many receivers you can get a group buy discount from Spike

I think I will go by there and pick one up this week though

    ---------------

There is nothing illegal about assembling ARs for resale, the receiver is the gun

AKs receiver flats are another story

  2. Hmmmmm... Depends --- If its not going to hurt your home budget then go ahead. If it will create financial hardship then dont - you have plenty... I too bought several lowers but my reason was because of inflation. My investments arent doing that hot and I happen to like AR rifles so I just picked up a 1/2 dozen more.... I also grabbed up a bit of ammo for the same reason..... Inflation. Nobody really knows what the election and economy are going to do so as a hedge against inflation and a change in public policy is enough to convince me a few on hand arent a bad idea.......

  3. you are getting into a gray area. Are you going to build them for yourself?? BATFE is picky about manufacturing firearms for sale without proper licenses.  You might have trouble getting them to believe they are all for yourself.

I enjoy the AR platform, and have built several of them for my own use over the years. As well as building them for other officers when I was a cop. But, I never purchased more that 2 receivers within a year for my own use.  And they are all still in the gunsafe, so I don't worry about proving where they are.

As for brand, I watch for quality brands on sale. I have yet to have a bad receiver from oly arms, DPMS, COLT (although I don't buy colt products anymore) Rock river etc.  Even Sarco offered some lowers at a good price a few years ago, although their customer service sucks and shipping time is ridiculous sometimes.

    Shoot safe

  4. Order that many at once and you are likely to get some unwanted attention.

  5. You don't need to worry about what might happen to the receivers if McCain is elected, you have to worry about them if Obama is elected.

I'm doing the same thing, buying AR lowers and AK receivers.

  6. I've been thinking of doing that as well but only one or two. When obama (I pray not but...) gets elected I see him first going after handguns then "assault rifles" then ammo. I have one of every gun I want but I want multiples.

Ammo is the big one. Especially handgun calibers and some rifle calibers. Obama even wants to ban .22LR. You can buy gun parts excluding the receiver as they don't count as a gun but you can only reload a casing so many times. I stockpile or at least try to.

I would think most stripped lowers are generally the same, it's more along the lines of looks. They all seem to be around the same price as well.

People say if McCain is elected he will institute a more thourough than clinton ban but I think they have there heads in their asses or their paultards or hardline libertarians when the say that. He has oppossed any form of ban on guns consistently. He opposed the 1994 Billery ban. The "gun show loophole" is his only fault but it's nowhere near making all semi's illegal, banning every form of centerfire and rimfire in existance, shutting down every gun store in America, removing concealed carry and open carry, and subject the 2nd Ammendment to UN scrutiny. Obama is a UN *****. The UN is a criminal organization, just like BAFTE but more evil. We should leave the UN and tell them to go **** themselves.

  7. If Obama is elected, they'll be outlawed.

Buy platinum, land, or fuel oil son!

  8. If they are outlawed they will only be worth what you are willing to risk your freedom to get for them on the black market, which I can guarantee you would be substantial. On the other hand they might also be further, literally worth there weight in gold in the event of a total economic and governmental collapse for self preservation. Good investment in my opinion. I have been to a few chat rooms that have put the price of black market AK's and AR's in California, where they are banned at well over $2,000+ if that is any indicator of future values. I agree with the other post about stalking up on hi-cap magazines and you should also have a parts kit to go with every receiver you own. Have a good one. Bell.

OH YEAH, DON'T FORGET THE AMMO (gun feed).
