Really bad leakage from the hole in mothers side from her kidney stone removal surgery ?

My mom had a surgery to remove a kidney stone that was the size of a softball but a bit bigger for 11 days she had a tube coming out her side with stuff leaking out of the tube into a bag and now they removed the tube today and the doctor said it wont leak much and that we wouldn't have to change the bandages until tomorrow morning well that was like 12 hours ago and i have had to change the bandage 2 times today and most likely another time cause it has leaked all through the bottom of the gauze and i was wondering if it should be leaking that much please help im afraid for my mothers well-being

  1. Call your mothers doctor. Tell him what is going on and ask if you shoudl bring her back in for him to examine her. there could be infection.. I would double check with the doctor before jumping to any conclusions.  


  2. The biggest concern would be bleeding, which would need to be treated immediately.

    In this case it sound like your mother has what's called a fistula. This is a natural or man-made tract that allows excess fluids and particles to be removed. When these fluids are not allowed to drain you can get what's called an abscess. Abscess' can become life threatening.

    Now, this fistula may not close in time - that would be a problem.

    Second, because it is draining a lot - remember to keep pushing fluids.

    Third, call the doctor in the morning to get a second opinion.

  3. Call the doctor and ask what you should do.

    For now, just keep changing the bandages as needed.
