as a child i was afraid of balloons so why did they turn into a fetish for me?

I think you probably just got over your fear of balloons and once you addressed your fear and realized how fun balloons could be you just had to have them, and now that you know what you missed as a kid you need balloons in order to just "make-up" for what you missed.
