  1. No curriculum in our home (we're unschoolers).

Home education offers as many co-curricular (what you call 'extra-curricular') activities as not; you just need to get out there and organise them for yourself rather than depending on *the school* to organise your *co-curricular activities* on your behalf.

Like everything, it depends what you're prepared to put into it and want to make it for yourself.

  2. There are way too many curriculua to list.  There are also many different methods of HS'ing.

HS'ing offers *more* opportunities for extra-curriculuar activities.  Plus, most of the activities are in the *community*, with *all ages*, not just in a school building with other students.

You need to add more details so we can also in our replies.

Read through the archives of this forum for lots more info.

  3. Unlike the public school, homeschoolers can choose a curriculum that best suits each child being taught. Some children learn well with a very structured curriculum, others learn best with no curriculum at all. There is no one right way to homeschool.

As for extra curricular activities, homeschooled children have the best of both worlds. They can choose a sport, music program, dance, or club and don't have the same time constraints as publicly schooled children. Some homeschooled children participate with other homeschoolers, some at the local rec center and others participate with private and/or public schooled children, depending on whether or not the law in their state allows it.

  4. A lot of people who homeschool, go on the web site for the state requirements for curriculum.  As long as they teach what is required, there is a wide variety of teaching.  They can even go to the school for such things as band, or sports, etc.

Usually, you have to have so many "book" hours for a subject, and then can do other activities.

It's pretty much a state by state thing.  So you would have to go on a web site to find out your state's laws.

  5. Curricula may be bought prepackaged or put together by the student and parents. Many use no particular curriculum, but rather follow the interests of the student and have great success. Others prefer to follow a more rigid plan. It varies from home to home and depends on how the individual children are best motivated as well as how they learn. It has been my experience that homeschool actually offers more opportunity for extra curricular activities. We are free to tailor our school schedules to our lives rather than the other way around. Most communities offer classes, sports, 4H, Scouts etc. Then there is the social sown time we all enjoy that just includes hanging out in the neighborhood, biking, swimming and doing all the things friends do.
