My little boy is 6mos old.

I know they say Breast milk or Formula Milk is still a baby's main nutrisum up to a year old, but i was mainly just wondering how many bottles of formula he should have in a day.

This is his food routine right now..

He has a bowl of baby cerial at about 6:45am and about 2 to 4 oz of formula.

Then at 10:00am he has another 2-4oz of formula.

Then at about 12:30 to 1:00pm he has his Dinner, which is a jar of Heinz 'mums own recipe' and after he has a babys strawberry yoghurt.

Then he might have about 2oz of formula after but thats only sometimes.

Then at about 3:00pm he has another 2 to 4 oz of formula,

Then at 5:30pm he has his tin of Heinz 'mums own recipe' and another yoghurt, then he will be in bed by about 6:00pm and i will give him his last bit of formula.

Do you think i should try and cut down the formula intake or still keep giving it to him ?

I don't want to be over feeding him.

He was a big baby, he weighed 8lb 13oz at birth and now hes a good size he isn't to big for his age, hes about 20lbs, but hes more of a tall baby rather than a chubby baby.

What do you think?

Thanks.

  1. Until a year old a baby should be having at least 24 oz of breast milk or formula in order to get the nutrients babies need.  From what you've put in your question it looks like your baby is getting about 14 oz which is WAY TOO LITTLE for a 6 month old.  I suggest cutting back on some of the food so that he drinks more "milk"

  2. At 6 months your baby only really needs 2-3 feeds per day. I think perhaps you are giving too much solids. Like you said yourself - formula/breastmilk is the main source of nutrition. Food right now is just for exploration of tastes/textures/temperatures etc, not really for nutrition.

Like the above person said you need to do more milk less food. Personally I think a jar of food and a yoghurt is a bit too much for one meal at this age.

Good Luck with whatever you decide. If unsure I think you should consult a professional with matters like this.
