you are driving on a road that has a 6% uphill grade. This means that the slope of the road is 6/100. Approximate the amount of vertical change in your position if you drive 200 feet.

  1. 12 feet cuz u add 6 feet for every 100 feet u go forward. i have a phd fo yo info j k i dont like math. its dummmmmm


  2. Slope is vertical change (rise) over horizontal change (run).  So make a right triangle with legs 6 and 100 and use Pythagorean theorem to get the actual distance up the hill (the hypotenuse).

    It's √(36 + 10000) ≈ 100.1798

    Now make a proportion, vertical change over hypotenuse change:

    6/v = 100.1798 / 200 and cross multiply

    100.1798v = 1200; divide by 100.1798 to get v.
