  1. The planet Jupiter.

  2. It appears to be Jupiter, which exceeds all other stars in brightness.

  3. Download the free program called Stellarium from the web site below.

You feed in your Latitude and Longitude and it will then show you a map of the sky, in real time.  You can also go forward or backward in time.

I find it a really useful reference tool for observing the night sky.

  4. Hes back lol

  5. Ok I live in alberta canada and that star is in the southeast sky and I think it is Venus that is what someone said when they came over to my place

  6. Jupiter

  7. It's either Venus or Jupiter! A planet not a star!

  8. That's Venus

  9. Two possibilities: Venus, due west right after sunset, very low and close to the horizon. Jupiter, in the southern sky most of the night.

  10. Is this around dusk, or is it at night? If this is around sunset, or sunrise, then that is Venus. But because of Venus' current position, it is more likely to be Jupiter. Second to the moon, Jupiter is currently the brightest object in the night sky. I've been observing it for the past couple of weeks, trying to take some good photos of it. But that dang moon lets out so much light pollution it is hard to do.

  11. Its Jupiter!  Its very bright and around midnight its straight up.  Impossible to miss. :)

Venus, Mars, Mercury, and Saturn are all visible immediately after sunset, but only for maybe a half an hour to an hour, and only with binoculars.  They are too close to the sun, so the glare in the sky makes it very hard to see them.

The other planets, Uranus and Neptune, are too dim to be seen right now (with the unaided eye) due to the full moon.
