during all the years of my youthhood i played football, tennis, squash, basketball, vollyball, badminton, table tennis and biliard. now lately i have picked up golf thought to be an old men's game (i am over 42 years). to my utter surprise, i am finding golf is the toughest game out of all that i have played in my life. never thoght of .

do you think above statement is because of my age factor ? or the sports (golf) itself is really tough enough involving fitness, scinece, uses of various tools in a single game. or otherwise.... your opinion please. thanks.

  1. Golf is truely on of the hardest sports out there.

People don't apprecaite how hard it is, mainly the people who call it an old mans game (I had alot of that at school)

With football and tennis etc it is pretty easy to pick up the rules. Golf on the otherhand as so many rules and I have played for 6years nearly and still don't know all of the rules in some situations.

You need to be able to keep up head screwed on when playing, to be able to keep your cool when you have just played a wayward tee shot and in the back on your mind you know you have to have a streak of pars to come out top on the leaderboard.

The actually physical side of hitting a golf ball straight takes alot of practice as so much can happen to your ball.

I don't think your statement is due to you age but it will make it a little harder to learn the game than a 8year old.

BECAUSE....a young kid doesnt understand the actually physics of what your golf club needs to do, such as the swing plane and keeping the club face square etc....

An adult who has knowledge knows about all this and when he/she hits a bad shot they will start to think how they shanked the ball or sliced it into the trees.

This thinking over and over again will just ruin your game....but for golf you are never to old to start and enjoy the game, you will just wish you had started earlier once the game grows on you

  2. No question about it.  Golf is by far the most difficult sport (game) to master.

  3. Golf is one sport where the more cerebral you are, the worse the results become. This is a game of extreme repetition, the swing plane, the Lie angle, the grip, stance, working the ball left, right or hitting it straight are all repetitive moves, ingrained through practice and playing. The more practice and playing the better the results. Your mastery of the short shots and chips have a decided effect on the scoring. So don't let age 42 bother you. I , at 85, have shoes older than that.   P.S. Don't forget the putter. Another club to master.

  4. Definitely, golf is the toughest game around. However, a very positive attitude goes a long way - one of my volunteer starters at the club I work at picked up th game at age 70. He plays and practices a few times a week and now at the age of 83 consistently shoots lower than his age. He does not think too much about mechanics, just tries to get the ball in the hole. One of the easiest ways to lower your score is to make your missed shots playable.

  5. I have played most of the sports that you listed and I in every single one of them I have been pretty good right off the bat without a problem. But golf is the HARDEST sport I have ever played. Its difficult to learn and I agree that it is the hardest sport to play. :/

    Oh well.

Just keep practicing and you'll do fine. :D

  6. Depends on what you call tougher.....I believe it is one of the toughest sports to master.......Millions play.....few have mastered all of the nuances of the game.  Age is a factor because you tend ot lose flexibility....but that aside its the demanding precision of every shot.
