But I don't know where in Virginia Beach I can buy a crab fishign pot from. If you know where I can get one or even order one online then let me know! Also a good pier to do this at. I'm use to doing it in the Gulf in Louisiana, not Va lol.

  1. Don't need a pier, don't need a crab pot unless you license it and tag it like the game warden requires.the best thing to do if you are just vacationing and want to cook a few crabs is just get you a crab net, they are about a 6 ft long pole with a net on it, tie a chicken neck on a crab line, you can buy all this at wal-mart for about $20. Set the chic neck out in water about 10 ft from the tide line ,tie the line to a stick and put in the sand so it will not float away.Watch the neck for the crabs eating on it, when you see one that's at least 5" wide just casually wade out real slow and net the bugger. After you get the crab on the beach or wherever you are just lay him on his back and rub his belly, he will go completely to sleep, that's no joke. That's what we do here in Carolina.I never cared much for crab so I don't crab much , but fish about everyday.Good Luck.If you ain't a fish'in you ain't a liv'in.

  2. What we used to do was get some kite string and a chicken neck or leg - a lantern and a net (and a cooler) and walk in the salt water where we knew their were crabs... toss out the bait about 30 feet.. wait a few minutes then slow begin bringing the line in you may feel them tugging at it - someone else is holding the lantern to your right or left about 2-3 feet behind you... as you get the bait close (mark the spot on the string) look for the crabs - move slowly and try to get them in the net... it is very possible and fun after you get the hang of it...there are lots of places to go "crabbing" in the VA Beach area...

  3. Try West Marine in the Norfolk/VA Beach area.  They carry them for under 10 dollars.  I do not know which piers permit it, as this year Blue Crabs are endangered it seems.
