Buyers did your realtor buy you a gift after the closing on your home?

My friend is a realtor and told me her clients usually expect her to give them a housewarming gift.

  1. Yes.  But in most states, there is a minor catch:

The person who is paying the commission (usually the seller) must be informed in writing of the gift to the buyer.

I think most real estate agents engage in this practice, and it's legal everywhere that I'm aware of.

  2. I didn't get any gift from mine

    Man, I feel cheated now...........................

  3. I just bought a condo and we close next week.  I'm not expecting a gift from my realtor, although she did take us out to dinner a couple months ago after showing us homes all afternoon, which we though was very nice of her.

  4. Your friend won't be in business long or get referrals if she is going to be that cheap.

I spend a MINIMUM of $100 per gift and I go up $50 on the gift per $100,000 that they buy.

I always remember my clients on their birthdays, wedding anniversaries and Christmas.

The key is getting them to keep remembering you so when they buy again, they'll go straight to you.  When they give a referral, they will refer only you.

  5. My agent does a gift card to a neighborhood restaurant and provides a binder with all relevant documents about the house both in hard copy and on CD.

  6. Sometimes I have gotten a gift, other times nothing.

I have remembered the realtors that sent gifts, I can't remember the others.

  7. Yes, when I was a Realtor I bought one of my client a living room set in the form of  a gift card.
