Question:

Rear ended, total -- what now?

I was rear ended at a "Yield" sign. The legal situation quite clear (not my fault). The car unfortunately a total. But, it is structurally intact, i.e. repairable and then legally drivable.

The other insurance company has offered a check.

Now my questions: When I have the car repaired only "in part" (i.e. not looking "new" like before the accident), what will the new insurance scenario be if there were to be a follow up accident? What will my premium be for a "repaired in part" vehicle? Can I still have collision insurance? If the car were to be totaled again, what would the "assessed value" in such case?

Note, we live in NJ.

  1. Every insurance company is different. I think it would be a good idea to contact your local agent and find out what your insurance's policy and procedures are.
