Question:

Rear facing infant seat ...in the middle or on one side of the backseat?

I always thought the middle was the safest place but we had our car seat inspected yesterday and the technician said it doesn't really matter where in the backseat it's located....as long as it's installed correctly.

I have a hard time believing this. I am after my husband to put it back in the middle but he likes using the LATCH system and doesn't want to mess with the seatbelt method of fastening it.

  1. The safest place for the seat is in the middle of the rear seat, proven everywhere, this area has the safest crumple zone of any vehicle....................

You may also get more information online by visiting the  National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website at http://www.nhtsa.gov or by calling 1-888-327-4236.

  2. If you can get a solid install in the center than it can be slightly safer.  If not, then the outboard install is safer.
