Rear speakers not working, soundmax problem?

Question

I just got some new speakers in my room that my dad gave to me and there are 2 front speakers and 2 rear speakers and one console thing that controls the power and bass, ect. They worked fine when my dad used them but for some reason only the front speakers are making any noise. I am thinking it may have to do with soundmax because in the task bar the icon has a red circle with a line through it. Is there any way to fix my problem because I know nothing about soundmax or speakers.

it is your settings it is set on stereo instead of surround
