Question:

Reason for being banned from freecycle.org group?

Have been an active member for yrs. No reason as to being banned, makes me wonder, if it's appropriate for Moderator, to give reason, such as no-show's, etc. Being sick/disabled, myself, car, hubby? Miss the yrs of being active w/such a great group, and many friends lost, that I thought I had, can make one quite depressed. Have not an answer to violating any rules/guidelines, but am part of other Groups, and they are not posting my Requests either. Think it's poor etiquette, not to give any answers due. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Not only do they have the power to "ban at will" but, as in your case, they will not provide an explanation.  Many groups (like freecycle) and companies (like google) run this way.  It's unfortunate that customer service has stumbled so much on the web...

  2. Why not email the owner of the group using the owners email address (located at the bottom of the groups homepage) and ask why you were banned.  If no answer, rejoin using a different email address.

  3. Why don't you get a new Yahoo address then rejoin under the new one.

  4. freecycle mods share information about spammers etc, and if your address has been perhaps hijacked and used to send spam it may have got onto the list and been banned across several groups. similarly, if one group has had a problem, you may have been put on moderation in other groups (ie your messages have to be approved by a moderator before being posted)

try e-mailing your moderators (usually 'group'-owners@yahoogroups.com/co.uk - should be on the homepage) or if you feel it's unfair, use the freecycle address info@freecycle.org, which will be forwarded to the right department and should get back to you

  5. sorry you were banned. regardless of any group, the owners have the ability to remove and ban at will. there's not much you can do about it. sorry
