Reason or temporary odor in drinking water

When I fill a glass of water from my tap, there is an odor for approximately 2 seconds and then the odor disappears.What could it be due to?

That happens in the hot summer in the Dallas area.  The news said was algae in the pipes.  It isn't bad for you, but does smell bad.  I use a Brita water pitcher in the refrigerator.....
