Reason why college students of this generation are poor in reading>

the obvious answer is to make TV, internet, ipods, x-box, etc., available to all of the kids in india, china, etc. so they'll be as dumb as we are.

I think there are several possible answers to this question:

1. Students are not, truly, understanding the building blocks/foundation of grammar and our language. Teachers are now too rushed, because of teaching to a test, to focus on getting everyone understanding the basics. This will later result in students who find reading frustrating and thus participate in it less.

2. Other items to occupy our time.

Because it was discovered that we were behind the rest of the world in math and science, so educators and the government really started pushing those two subjects. Also this is the age of technology. Now instead of having to read books or really do any hard work, we can go onto spark notes, or do what you're doing and seek help from people on the internet. There's video games, iPods, new movies are always coming out, new tv shows. In between all of this new media, people hardly ever sit down to enjoy a book. And it might be because we don't have the time, because US citizens also work more (as in longer hours) than most other countries, and don't spend a lot of time taking vacations, where'd you be able to enjoy a good read.
