Reasonably priced hotel in Rome

Question

I'm looking for a cheap(ish) hotel in Rome close to the centre. I have never been to Rome so I'm not sure what would be the best area to stay in.....Can anyone recommend any good website or hotels? Thanks guys x

I just retured from italy 2 weeks ago and stayed in rome, central. I found hotels (nice) on hotwire.com. It was a 3 1/2 star hotel for $99.00 usd. There were cheaper options also.

as Roman, I would suggest Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps), which is in the very heart of the city, but it is also quite expensive.

Good solutions (and not necessarily expensive) could be found close to St. Peter
