Reasonably-priced hotels in Rome?

Hi! I'll be going to Rome for my Christmas holidays and I can't seem to find a reasonably-priced hotel in the center of Rome. Also, where is the best place to stay in Rome-I mean somewhere close to the sites or a metro station.

Thank you!

  1. Enjoy your trip.  Rome is a neat city.

As far as "reasonably price hotels" are concerned - there are none.  Every hotel in Rome costs more than it should.  Even the inexpensive hotels seem like a poor value for the money.  Why is that?  Because its Rome.  Every tourist in the world wants to go to Rome, and the hotelliers know this.

Two ways to do it... figure out a max budget and stay in the hotel that fits it.... or figure out a location and stay there regardless of price.

  2. I use www.selectitaly.com they have lots of cheap hotels and other infor.

  3. Look at www.hoteldina.it  (sorry so used to dot com, forgot its dot IT) its only a 2 star hotel but the prices are not too steep and its less than 100 yds from the Termini (main railway station) the Metro and the main bus terminus. My son and I use it about 12 times a year so its not too bad.  By the way the website is in Italian and English and you can check bookings in advance.  If you go give my regards to Sergio the head reseptionist tell him Aron and Andrew of Malta.

  4. Here is a site that can help:

    http://www.englishyellowpages.it/

OR... take Alex CJ up on his offer. It sounds like a real deal.

  5. http://www.tripadvisor.com  ranks consumer preferences and pricing at all levels.  they also have b&b's which can be less expensive....

rome is expensive as is any city.  metros are everywhere as is a tourist bus that has multiple on/off stops at diferent locations so don't worry about that!!!!  but, there is the historical center, the vatican center, the business center.

  6. Rome is a popular Christmas destination, so the prices aren't particularly cheap then. Most of the cheaper options will be one & two star places or better hotels outside of Rome.

I use venere.com to book hotels in Italy (I live in northern Italy and travel often). After you select city and dates, you can sort by area of the city, price, ratings, and read reviews of specific places. http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/#o=pric...

If you're looking for cheap and close in, one good option may be the Hotel Romano http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosse... It's very close to the Forum & Colosseum and within walking distance of two metro stops and the Termini train station.

Another option about 2 blocks to Roma Termini is the Serena http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/esquili...

Obviously, availablity depends on the specific dates you want, but a quick check using the dates 20 - 27 December came up with some 452 available hotels ranging from 50 to 500 euro per night.

  7. It depends on what you consider to be "reasonably price." To some people that's 80 euro and for others it's 150 euro per night. Your money will go further at an accommodation near Termini Station. Termini has great access to transport via bus & metro. Consider buying the RomaPass (www.romapass.it) which will give you unlimited bus & metro rides as well as free entry to 2 museums/sights and discounts to others - Vatican not included. I would check out Gulliver's House near Termini. Their website it www.gullivershouse.com or try Nicolas Inn if you can spend a little more, www.nicolasinn.com.  If neither appeals to you try www.rometravelcafe.com. where they have nice selection of places in different price levels.

Since you're going near the Christmas holiday be sure to check out the Christmas market at Piazza Navona and the nativity scenes on display near Piazza del Popolo.

  8. Pretty much all the hotels in Rome are expensive. But there are some nice hostels and budget hotels around. Try the following websites:

    www.hostelworld.com

    www.hostelbookers.com

    www.hostels.com

    www.hostelz.com

They cover a lot of hostels and budget hotels in cities all over the world. I personally have used hostelworld and hostelbookers and have not been disappointed.

  9. ww.acj.it/tritone

2 person for 100euro a day in the center (between trevi fountain and spanish steps)

    ciao

    Ale
